"Collaborative Care"

Collaborative Care aims to provide a space for adults who have children with severe disabilities, working alongside companies in Plymouth like Sen & Disabilites who focus on caring for children between the age of zero to twenty-five. The project provided space for children to spend short periods of time away from their adult carers, relieving the stress from Dereford Hospital, Plymouth through social prescribing and decentralisation.

The time spent in the centre allowed children the opportunity to participate in water-based activities, neutralising their disabilities, or spend time in a sheltered sensory room. While this occurs, the carers will have a separate space where they can relax, seek advice, and access facilities like the internet. Furthermore, having a close relationship with the Climb Keyham facility, the carers will have the opportunity to partake in climbing and water-based activities. The building has been designed to provide a constant visual connection between the carers and children, so the separation period is not daunting or overstimulating for the children.
